It was seeing this dress by Red Valentino on Net a Porter that finally pushed me to start a blog. Specifically, a blog about my secret covets.
You see, I believe that if you are interested in beautiful clothes--especially if your money is tight--the way to go is to save up for those dream pieces, pieces of good quality and timeless style. I have a pair of Doc Martens that have just turned ten years old. I saved up money from my waitressing job in high-school, and bought them for $130. They are still my favorite shoes, and I feel, still my coolest.
Luckily I'm not trendy... I don't feel the need to rush to A/Wear and buy a pleather jacket when leather jackets are in. Most people who know me probably think I'm not interested in fashion at all; most days I'm in a flannel shirt and filthy jeans (and aforementioned Doc Martens). But I like to think of myself as a shrewd investor in fashion. I'll drop the cash where it counts.
For instance: a gorgeous pair of black patent leather Miu Miu heels, that are still as sexy as when I bought them in 2008. Each time I wear them, I clean them and put them back in their original box. My daughter will look fucking hot in those shoes someday.
So back to the dress... while I could reasonably save up for this one, I'll probably come across another piece later today that I love even more. Thus the blog: so that next time I've got a spare 700 euros lying around (yeah. right.), I can check the archives, see what's recently made me swoon.
Oh, and if that day never comes, someone else might give that dress a good home.
